As we all know, there are two distinct seasons in Minnesota, and seeing as it's already May, 'tis the season for orange construction barrels to pop up all over-- including another big project on Highway-52 north of Rochester.

Seeing as it's the only direct route between Rochester and the Twin Cities, Highway-52 is one of the most-used highways in our neck of the woods. So when road construction projects are scheduled (as several already are this year), there's the very real possibility you could get stuck in a big traffic back-up sometime this spring and summer.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is in the middle of a massive re-do of the southbound lanes of a portion of Highway-52 between Zumbrota north to Cannon Falls. Work has already started on that project, which includes adding a new overpass at the Highway-75 interchange near Hader.

And, starting Monday (May 9th), ANOTHER project along Highway-52 is set to start, as well. According to MnDOT:

On Monday, May 9, weather permitting, Highway 52 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction beginning one-half mile north and south of Hwy 60 east interchange. Detours for this work will remain for approximately four months as the Highway 52 southbound bridge over Highway 60 east is replaced.

And, much like the other projects north of Zumbrota, this one could also create a few headaches. MnDOT says, "Motorists should be prepared for single-lane traffic and possible delays during busy travel periods during the morning and evening commutes, as well as weekends."

You can get more information on that entire project HERE. Road construction in Minnesota in the spring and summer is just one of those things we've come to expect, even if being stuck in a traffic backup can be a little annoying. It's kind of like getting stuck at one of these intersections, because they're the most annoying in Rochester! Keep scrolling to check 'em out!
