That's one of the questions the city of Rochester is asking, and they want to know what you think!

It's been eight years since the city of Rochester put together a master plan to help develop transportation infrastructure in Minnesota's Med City and they want your input as they work on an update to that plan.

According to the city of Rochester website, city planners are seeking input right now on Rochester's Active Transportation Plan, something called the Rochester Area Bicycle Master Plan, which was developed back in 2012. In case you're wondering, the city defines 'acctive transportation' as "human-powered modes of transportation, primarily walking and bicycling," the site noted.

To help gather your thoughts, the city has put together an online survey (which you can take HERE), the goal of which is to "identify strategies and transportation improvements to foster a safe and healthy community with accessible connections between businesses, neighborhoods, schools, and other destinations," the site said.

By taking the survey, city staffers are hoping you'll give them your opinion on questions like:

How can we make streets safer? How can we make it easier for more people to walk or bike to get where they need to go? How can our transportation system support local businesses and adapt to changing technology and travel habits?

According to KTTC, city planners are hoping to use feedback from the survey to know how to prioritize which areas to work on first. "We are looking to direct city spending regardless of whether there is a ton of input or not," Rochester Community Development Planner Matthew Tse said in the story. "It's really for the benefit of the entire city. At the end of the day, me and my teammates are all public servants and so we're trying to figure out where best to spend our money and who that may best serve," Tse noted in the KTTC story.

While the city has already hosted several virtual workshops and pop-up sessions at places like Safe City Nights, the Rochester Farmers Market and Thursdays Downtown, the online survey is up and running now and will be active through September 1st. (Click HERE to take the survey) After compiling the survey results, the city will form the new Active Transportation Plan, which they hope to have completed by spring of 2022.
