Minnesota lawmakers have been talking about making daylight saving time permanent for several years now and I think most people would be happy if they did. Every time we have to fall back or spring ahead my sleep gets thrown completely off and it always takes several days to get adjusted.

The Sleep Foundation says the time changes messes with everyone and could have a negative impact on your physical and mental well-being. One study found that the average person receives 40 minutes less sleep on the Monday after we move our clocks ahead an hour.

Will Minnesota Ever Make Daylight Saving Time Permanent?

Minnesota Representative, Mike Freiberg, has been trying to make the time change a thing of the past for several years now.

He told KARE 11, "We have to adjust our schedules in the middle of the night twice a year for no discernable reason that's relevant to modern society that I could figure out and I've heard from many constituents who feel the same."

18 states have introduced legislation to make DST permanent according to The Hill, but these states would need approval from the federal government before making an official changes.

According to Time Magazine, Daylight Saving Time starts at 2 a.m. because it was the time of day that would least impact travel.

Time says, "When the country first experimented with Daylight Saving Time in 1918 during World War I, there were actually no trains that left New York City at 2 a.m. on a Sunday. Sunday morning at 2 a.m. was when they would interrupt the least amount of train travel around the country.”
