The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the southwestern corner of Minnesota from 7 am Sunday through 7 am Monday. The shift puts the east edge of an expected band of 6-8 inches of slushy snow west of Albert Lea and through Mankato. Austin and Owatonna are in an area that could see 3-5 inches of snow, while Rochester is now being told to expect 2-4 inches of snow beginning Sunday afternoon. Earlier forecasts had the heavy snow band in south-central Minnesota.

The National Weather Service is advising everyone in southern Minnesota to monitor the forecasts this weekend as the track of the storm system remains uncertain.

In the nearer future, forecasters say record-setting cold is possible in the region Saturday morning. The mercury is forecast to drop to between 5 and 10 degrees in the Rochester, where the current record low for April 7th was set in 1887 at 9-degrees.
