Winona, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Catholic Diocese of Winona-Rochester issued a statement today concerning a former priest who is facing a felony sexual assault charge in Winona County.

The news release says Ubaldo Rooque Huerta was among the four priests who were ordained by the Diocese in 2008. It also indicates he has not had any assignments within the Diocese since 2019 and his faculties were suspended in 2019. The Diocese says the church was actively working to end his status as a priest when the alleged criminal sexual conduct involving an adult occurred in December 2020.

Huerta had previously worked with Hispanic communities in southeastern Minnesota. The Diocese indicated St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rochester was among the parishes he served. The list also includes Holy Redeemer in Eyota, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, St. Aloysius Church in Elba, and two churches in Winona.

The news release says the Diocese is working with law enforcement agencies involved in the case and is encouraging anyone who has been victimized or assaulted to immediately reported to law enforcement.
