Winter Weather Blast Impacts Tuesday’s Rochester-Area Commute

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- An early dose of winter weather is impacting Tuesday morning’s commute in southeast Minnesota.

The snow started early Tuesday morning. It was coupled with strong winds that reduced visibility to a half-mile at the Rochester Airport, according to the National Weather Service’s monitoring system. 

The snowfall also covered lengthy stretches of Highways 14, 52 and 63. Parts of I-90 in the Rochester area were also reported to be either partially or completely covered with snow and ice, according to the National Weather Service. 

The slick conditions led to at least two incidents that slowed traffic. You can view up to the minute road conditions in the KROC News App.

Southbound Hwy. 63 in Rochester was blocked by a jack-knifed semi truck at the 48th St. exit near Fleet Farm. The scene was cleared and traffic returned to its normal flow around 8:30 a.m.

Traffic on eastbound Hwy. 14 between Rochester and Byron was been reduced to a single lane near 60th Ave. due to a crash in the right lane. That crash has since been cleared. 

In Goodhue County, a jack-knifed semi truck blocked the left lane of northbound Hwy. 52 between Pine Island and Zumbrota. Crews have cleared the scene and traffic has resumed its regular flow. 

There's no word yet if anyone was injured in the crashes. Tuesday’s forecast calls for the snow to end Tuesday morning.
