Woman Killed After Box Truck Blows Tire, Crashes Near Albert Lea
Albert Lea, MN (KROC-AM News)- The driver of a box truck lost her life after crashing on I-90 near Albert Lea Wednesday morning.
The State Patrol responded to the crash near an exit two miles west of the I-90/I-35 interchange. The crash was reported shortly before 9:20 a.m.
The state crash report indicates a tire on the box truck blew out causing it to run off the freeway towards a ditch on the northside. The vehicle then struck an embankment then came to rest in the north ditch partially in a creek.
The driver, identified as 51-year-old Michelle Lea Bermel of Albertville, died at the scene. The state crash report says she was buckled at the time of the deadly crash.
Wednesday morning's crash was one of two deadly crashes involving large vehicles reported on I-90 in southern Minnesota. The other occurred Wednesday afternoon about 30 miles west of Albert Lea.
