Elgin, MN (KROC-AM News) - Very few details have been released, but the Wabasha County Sheriff's Office is reporting that a six-year-old child was wounded in a shooting Tuesday evening.

The incident was reported shortly after 6:30 PM at a residence in Elgin. Wabasha County deputies learned the shooting occurred outside of the home and another person was handling the firearm when it discharged.

The information gathered by investigators so far indicates it was accidental, but the incident remains under investigation.

The young child was transported by ambulance for treatment. Wabasha Sheriff's Captain Curt Struwe described the victim’s injuries as serious with wounds to his abdomen and an arm, but additional information concerning the child's medical condition is not available.
