According to the Mall of America's website, for about the past 30 years, the Mall has been celebrating Earth Month and its commitment to "green". A bunch of activities are scheduled throughout the month including the ladybug release last Friday. A bunch of kids joined in on the fun and carefully helped release 100,000 ladybugs in the plants at Nickelodeon Universe.
Why are ladybugs released at the Mall of America in Minnesota?
The reason why ladybugs are the bug of choice is because they are like a natural pesticide and helps protect plants from aphids and other nasty pests.
Fun fact: Mall of America is home to more than 30,000 live plants and trees! Some of which include a lemon tree, an orange tree, a pineapple plant, bird of paradise, shrimp plant and many more.
