Lake Crystal, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in the Mankato area are reporting the arrest of a 23-year-old motorcyclist accused of racing at approximately 160 mph during a law enforcement pursuit Wednesday night.
The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy first observed the motorcyclist speeding at around 90 mph while traveling east on Highway 60, west of the town of Lake Crystal. The pursuit began around 9:50 p.m.
Motorcyclist Caught After Evasive U-Turn Maneuver
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the deputy attempted a traffic stop, and the motorcyclist responded by accelerating even faster. A news release on the incident says the 160-mile-per-hour speed was reached shortly before the motorcyclist lost control in the grassy median while attempting “an evasive U-turn maneuver.”

The statement says the motorcyclist was then taken into custody without further resistance. He was identified as 23-year-old David James Ruter of rural Fairfax. As of Thursday afternoon, Ruter was in custody in the Blue Earth County Jail on charges related to the pursuit.
