Wrong-Way Crash on I-35 in Albert Lea Critically Injures Two

Albert Lea, MN (KROC-AM News) -- The State Patrol reports that two people suffered critical injuries in a crash caused by a wrong-way driver on I-35 in Albert Lea on Saturday.

The three-vehicle collision occurred shortly after 7 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the freeway near the East Main Street interchange. The State Patrol says an SUV was traveling south in the northbound lanes when it collided with a small SUV and a pickup truck.

State Patrol Identifies Drivers and Passengers Involved

The wrong-way driver was identified as 25-year-old Anthony Lee Graham of Austin. He was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Albert Lea with non-life-threatening injuries. The State Patrol says his passenger, 30-year-old Tabatha Ann Caballero of Mankato, was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester with what were described as life-threatening injuries.

The second person transported to St. Mary’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries was the driver of the small SUV. The State Patrol identified her as 54-year-old Angela Lea Johnson of Medina. She had one passenger, 55-year-old Jeffrey James Johnson of Medina. He and the driver of the pickup, 85-year-old Harold Boverhuis of Brownsdale, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the Albert Lea hospital for treatment.

State Patrol Says Alcohol Was Not Involved

The State Patrol report indicates alcohol was not a factor in the crash. One of the critically injured victims was not wearing a seat belt, while the driver of the small SUV was belted in.
