A news release issued by the Minneapolis Police Department said officers responded to the fatal shooting around 2:15 Sunday morning. The gunshots rang out at a Tobacco Store in the Dinkytown neighborhood.

The preliminary investigation indicates an altercation between two groups of customers escalated to gunfire inside of the shop. Responding officers administered life-saving measures to two gunshot victims at the scene but both were pronounced dead.

They are described as men in their 20’s. A third gunshot victim was taken from the shooting scene to a nearby hospital. That victim, also a man in his 20’s, suffered what is being described as a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The injured male is an employee of the store and was one of three workers in the business at the time of the shooting. The employee and two men killed in the shooting are not believed to be University of Minnesota students, police say.
