Winona, MN (KROC AM News) -  A Winona County man who murdered his wife because he could “not watch her suffer” will be around 85-years-old when he gets out of prison.

A 128-month sentence was given to 80-year-old Joseph Wright Wednesday, which was called for under his plea agreement.

The rural Dakota man pleaded guilty in April to 2nd-degree murder.

He admitted he stabbed his wife in their home last year and then called 911 to report the killing. Wright then attempted suicide by cutting his wrist after leaving a note that stated he could "not watch her suffer."

The criminal complaint indicates his 72-year-old wife had been suffering from dementia.
