Undated (KROC AM News) - It will be a chilly fishing opener in Minnesota this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning that will be in effect from midnight through 9 a.m. Saturday for the entire western half of the state and parts of central Minnesota.

Overnight low temperatures are expected to drop into the 20’s in the warning zone.

Scattered frost is possible in southeast Minnesota through the weekend as temperatures are expected to fall into the mid 30’s.

Despite the chilly weather, the Minnesota DNR predicts up to half a million people will take part in the opener.

The annual Minnesota Governor's Fishing Opener is being held on Big Sandy Lake in northeast Minnesota, in the McGregor area.
