As the temps slowly warm up, many of us have started making plans for spring and summer. The Rochester Downtown Alliance has been working on their plans for about a year now and have announced an updated Thursdays Downtown 2020 layout. The layout pictured below goes from 3rd St. all the way past Pasquale's Pizzeria.

According to a press release sent out Thursday morning, "The proposed event footprint activates the following downtown areas:

  • 1st Avenue Southwest from 2nd Street Southwest to just before the 3rd Street Ramp exit across from The Loop
  • 3rd Street Southwest from the 3rd Street alley to 1st Avenue Southwest
  • 1st Avenue Southwest from 4th Street Southwest to 6th Street Southwest
  • 5th Street Southwest from 1st Avenue Southwest to the alley

The RDA was forced to start exploring new locations for the popular downtown event about a year ago because of construction projects in the Peace Plaza area that are scheduled to begin this spring.

Holly Masek, RDA executive director, said, “Thursdays Downtown brings 220,000 people and an estimated $8 million in economic impact to downtown seasonally.  The event has come to mean a lot to Rochester. We greatly appreciate the accommodations being made by impacted property owners and City officials to ensure its continued success. Moving an event like this is complicated, but we are carefully working through logistics and marketing to make sure the event’s relocation is as seamless and successful as possible.”

The changes will have to complete the City of Rochester’s formal permitting process before they become official.
