Ex-boyfriend Arrested Following Rochester Park Confrontation

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- An Iowa man who was convicted in a shooting and firearm assault at a local Rochester park has been sentenced.

Rochester police responded to a southeast Rochester gas station late on the night of June 7, 2025 and spoke with a man who reported that he and a woman had been at Quarry Hill Park that evening and were confronted by another man when they returned to the parking lot.

He stated that the other man pulled out a handgun and used it to strike him in the face, the complaint says.

The victim then told officers he was able to get into his vehicle and, as he was beginning to drive away, the man struck the driver's-side window with the pistol before he heard one or two gunshots as he exited the parking lot.

He suffered a laceration on his face, along with blood on his face, neck, and clothing, according to the court document.

The woman who was with him told police she saw the man being assaulted and she identified the assailant as 19-year-old Lamarion Knox Joseph of Clinton Iowa, who is described in the complaint as the woman’s ex-boyfriend.

Police went to Quarry Hill and recovered a single shell casing and also observed a nearby trail of blood.

The criminal complaint also notes that surveillance cameras at Quarry Hill Park captured portions of the incident.

Sentence Followed Plea Agreement

Knox was charged with second-degree assault, felony reckless discharge of a firearm within a municipality, and gross misdemeanor theft.

He entered into a plea agreement in June and admitted to a charge of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon in exchange for the dismissal of the other charges.

Joseph was given a five-year stayed prison sentence, five years probation and 364 days in jail.
