Giants skipper has heart procedure

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy has undergone a heart procedure to insert two stents and was hospitalized overnight in Arizona. The team says its medical staff had been monitoring their 60-year-old manager's heart after he experienced some discomfort following a physical exam Wednesday.

Bochy, who turns 60 in April, has led the Giants to three World Series titles in the past five seasons.

Thunder gain eighth spot...Clippers outlast Spurs

UNDATED (AP)— For the first time this NBA season, the Oklahoma City Thunder are in the top eight in the Western Conference. The Thunder gained the eighth spot by beating Dallas 104-89. Russell Westbrook led the Thunder with 34 points and 10 assists.

Serge Ibaka had 21 points and a career-high 22 rebounds and reserve guard Anthony Morrow added 16 points for the Thunder,

OKC has won four straight and six of seven. The Thunder have a 29-25 record, tied with Phoenix for the eighth spot, but OKC owns the tiebreaker.

In the only other game as the NBA resumed its regular season last night following the All-Star break, the L.A. Clippers beat the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs 119-115. Deandre Jordan led the Clippers with 26 points, but made just 10 of 28 free throws. Chris Paul had 22 points and 16 assists. Tim Duncan had a double-double for the Spurs with 30 points and 11 rebounds.

Changing faces, changing places

UNDATED (AP) — Goran Dragic is getting out of Phoenix, like he wanted. The third-team All-NBA guard had told the Suns he wanted a trade to a better situation, and he got it in the final hours before the NBA trading deadline

Dragic and brother Zoran Dragic are leaving Phoenix for Miami. The Suns are getting forward Danny Granger and first-round picks in 2017 and 2021 from the Heat.

The Heat also traded guard Norris Cole, forward Shawne Williams and center Justin Hamilton, who are all heading to New Orleans. The Pelicans are expected to waive Williams.

New Orleans sent guard John Salmons to Phoenix to complete the deal, though the Suns already say they will waive him.

In other deals:

— Kevin Garnett is rejoining the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves brought him back to Minnesota by sending Thaddeus Young to Brooklyn. Garnett spent his first 12 seasons in Minnesota.

— The Milwaukee Bucks have traded guard Brandon Knight to Phoenix in a three-team deal that also sends Michael Carter-Williams from Philadelphia to Milwaukee. The Bucks also get guard Tyler Ennis and forward Miles Plumlee from Phoenix as part of the deal.

__ Reggie Jackson, who began the season replacing an injured Russell Westbrook, now will step in for the sidelined Brandon Jennings in the Motor City. The Oklahoma City Thunder sent Jackson to Detroit in a three-way trade that included Utah. Jackson averaged 20.2 points and 7.7 assists in 13 starts he made when Westbrook and Kevin Durant were out with injuries. Oklahoma city gets Enes Kanter from Utah.

__ Detroit sent guard DJ Augustin, forward Kyle Singler and a 2019 second-round draft selection to the Thunder, and a 2017 second-round pick to the Jazz.

__ The Thunder traded center Kendrick Perkins, forward Grant Jerrett, the draft rights to Tibor Pleiss and a protected 2017 first-round pick to Utah. Oklahoma City also acquired forward Steve Novak from the Jazz.

— Denver has sent Arron Afflalo and Alonzo Gee to Portland Trail Blazers in a five-player deal. The Nuggets receive Thomas Robinson, Victor Claver and Will Barton, along with lottery protected first round pick in 2016.

— The Sacramento Kings have traded guard Ramon Sessions to Washington for guard Andre Miller. Sessions is averaging 5.4 points and 2.7 assists in 17.8 minutes per game while Miller is averaging 3.6 points and 2.8 assists in 12.4 minutes.

Miller will be reunited with new Kings coach George Karl. The two had a close relationship in Denver, where Miller enjoyed some of his best seasons.

Bosh getting medical tests

MIAMI (AP) — Center Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat underwent testing at a hospital Thursday to assess a medical issue related to the area around his lungs. That's what a person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press. Bosh and the team were expecting to have a better grasp of the situation Friday.

Miami plays at New York on tonight. Bosh did not fly with the team Thursday.

Bosh was not feeling well and was sent home by the team from practice Wednesday. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said at Thursday afternoon's practice that Bosh was "under the weather" but offered no specifics.

Bosh is averaging just over 21 points and 7 rebounds this season.

SMU ends Owls' streak...Gonzaga win 20th straight as Wiltjer pours in 45

UNDATED (AP)— Nic Moore scored 18 points, and No. 21 SMU rallied from 10 points down in the second half to beat Temple 67-58, snapping the Owls' seven-game winning streak.

Ryan Manuel hit a tying 3-pointer and added another to cap a 7-0 run that broke a 52-52 tie and sent the American Athletic Conference-leading Mustangs to their 20th win in 22 games. The Mustangs outscored the Owls 15-6 in the final four minutes.

__ Forward Kyle Wiltjer poured in a career-high 45 and third-ranked Gonzaga won its 20th straight game, 86-74 over Pacific. That's the most points by a Gonzaga player in 54 years.

__ In a low-scoring affair, ninth-ranked Utah beat Oregon State 47-37. Dakarai Tucker had 11 points off the bench for the Utes.

__ Kaleb Tarczewski scored 15 points, Stanley Johnson added 13 in another strong all-around game and No. 7 Arizona jumped on Southern California, 87-57.

— Melo Trimble scored 26 points, including a pair of pivotal 3-pointers down the stretch, and No. 16 Maryland squeezed past Nebraska 69-65 in the first-ever meeting between the teams.

Islanders end Preds' 6-game streak

UNDATED (AP) — On NHL ice, Jaroslav Halak tied the team record for wins in a season, and the New York Islanders cooled off the NHL-leading Nashville Predators, 5-2. Halak made 30 saves for his 32nd win. Nick Leddy had a goal and two assists.

Brian Strait, John Tavares and Johnny Boychuk scored in the first for the Islanders, who snapped Nashville's six-game winning streak with their sixth victory in seven games. Tavares has at least one goal in each of his last four games.

— Brandon Dubinsky scored with 2:17 remaining to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 2-1 win over Pittsburgh.

__ Alex Ovechkin notched his league-leading 38th goal in Washington's 5-1 win over Winnipeg.

__ Vancouver beat the New York Rangers in a shootout, 5-4. Henrik Sedin scored twice for the Canucks.

__ In another shootout, Florida nipped Montreal 3-2. Dave Bolland scored the deciding shootout goal that moved the Panthers within one point of Boston for the final playoff spot in the East.

NASCAR-DAYTONA 500

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Hendrick Motorsports swept the Daytona 500 qualifying races, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson winning their respective qualifying races.

Danica Patrick needed a push from teammate Kurt Busch for the final two laps of the second 150-mile Budweiser Duel to make the Daytona 500 field. She then had a heated exchange with rival driver Denny Hamlin after the race. Tony Stewart, her boss, also came down to jaw at Hamlin.

Jeff Gordon and Johnson had swept the front row last Sunday in the first round of qualifying. Then Earnhardt, the defending Daytona 500 winner, won the first 150-mile Budweiser Duel to take the third starting spot in Sunday's season-opening race. Johnson then won the second duel qualifier.

NFL-COLTS-DEFLATEGATE

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — General manager Ryan Grigson says that the Colts contacted NFL officials before last month's AFC championship game about their concerns with New England's game balls. The NFL has launched an investigation after it was found that the balls New England supplied for the game against Indianapolis were underinflated in the first half of the game.

Grigson did not say how the team was tipped off. Previous reports have indicated Indy first became suspicious after Mike Adams picked off two of Tom Brady's passes in November and that the Ravens had noticed the kicking balls were softer during a divisional-round loss to the Patriots.

League officials have not provided any updates on Ted Wells' investigation into "Deflategate."

NFL-BROWNS

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Cleveland general manager Ray Farmer says he sent text messages to the sideline last season in violation of league rules. Farmer says he acted alone and that nobody asked him to contact coaches. Team owner Jimmy Haslam recently expressed support for Farmer, who says he will accept whatever punishment the NFL sets.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers are planning a shared stadium in the Los Angeles area if both teams fail to get new stadium deals in their current hometowns.

The teams announced plans for the $1.7 billion stadium in Carson in a joint statement Thursday night.

Cause of death determined

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon state medical examiner says former Portland Trail Blazers player Jerome Kersey died from a blood clot that traveled from his left calf to his lungs. The determination came a day after Kersey died at 52. Kersey had minor surgery on his knee last Friday.

Trail Blazers President Emeritus Harry Glickman said of Kersey: "It's been some 45 years since we brought the Blazers here, and in those 45, and the next 45, the Blazers will never have a better human being than Jerome Kersey."
