Ag Pilot Fighting for His Life After Rural Minnesota Plane Crash
Clara City, MN (KROC-AM News)- A western Minnesota man suffered severe injuries as the result of a plane crash Tuesday morning.
A news release from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to the crash shortly after 9:30 a.m. The aircraft was reported to have crashed in a cornfield near a rural intersection in Crate Township, which is about 23 miles west of Wilmar.
Search and rescue teams also responded to the crash and found the pilot, identified as Derek John DuHoux of Clara City, MN, still inside of the plane. He was airlifted from the crash site with what are being described as life-threatening injuries.
Although the crash investigation remains ongoing, authorities say preliminary information indicates DuHoux was using the aircraft to spray crops when the plane caught a powerline. The Federal Aviation Administration and Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the crash.
