Juvenile Linked to Albert Lea School Lockdown Intercepted on Bus
Albert Lea, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office has released additional details concerning Monday’s school lockdowns in Albert Lea.
Sheriff Ryan Shea says the FBI tip that led to the lockdowns involved a brief Discord conversation. According to Shea, the online post came from an individual who expressed interest in committing a school shooting and live streaming it.
Investigators Intercept Juvenile on School Bus
The sheriff’s statement says investigators determined one person involved in the conversation was from the Albert Lea area, while the other was located outside of the United States. Investigators identified the local individual Monday morning and, working with the Albert Lea Police Department and school district, intercepted the juvenile on a school bus before the start of the school day.
A search warrant was executed at the juvenile’s home later in the day, and all firearms in the residence were removed.
Rumors Circulated on Snapchat Quickly Debunked
Sheriff Shea also reported that a Snapchat message circulated Monday afternoon suggested relatives of the juvenile were involved in the threat. He says a quick investigation confirmed there was no evidence to support the claim, and investigators have identified the source of the rumor.

The sheriff’s statement says the investigation is ongoing and that the Freeborn County Attorney’s Office will review potential charges.
