Another New Building Project Now Underway in Rochester

While Mayo Clinic's massive, $5 billion Bold Forward Unbound expansion is well underway in Rochester, it's far from the only project that's changing the Med City's downtown footprint. Another new project is now underway just a few blocks from Mayo's campus.

Rochester’s Downtown Transformation Continues

A lot has changed since the first Rochester residents settled this area over 170 years ago. The area where the city of Rochester is located today originally served as a camping ground for wagon trains and later as a stagecoach and rail center, according to an article on the online encyclopedia, Britannica.

Of course, you don't have to go back to when Rochester was first incorporated to see how much things have changed in Minnesota's Med City. There has been a LOT of development downtown thanks to Mayo Clinic and the Destination Medical Center initiative, which began in 2013.

The Klimt Apartments Break Ground Near Mayo Clinic

And now, another new construction project has broken ground downtown. Crews are now hard at work on what will be The Klimt, a new apartment complex located at 507 2nd Ave SW in Rochester, right along the Discovery Walk between 5th and 6th Streets.

What Residents Can Expect at The Klimt

According to Venstar LLC Real Estate Development Management, the Klimt Apartments are set to open in the spring of 2027, and are described like this:

The KIimt is an 80-unit market-rate multi-family housing project, an homage to Gustav Klimt,a world-renowned painter of the early 1900’s. The building will be located in the Discovery Square district of Downtown Rochester.

According to the Development Tracker Rochester, the project will bring 'new apartment homes to the district along with resident amenities such as a fitness space, community areas, and a rooftop terrace overlooking the Discovery Walk corridor,' a post on the tdroch Instagram page said.
