Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Two motels that served Mayo Clinic patients for decades are disappearing.

Demolition of the buildings west of St Marys Hospital and on the south side of 2nd St has already started.

As of mid-morning Thursday, half of the former Ray-Mar motel was already gone. Also facing the wrecking ball is the Brentwood, formerly known as the Blondell Motel.

The two motels had been operating for decades but are being demolished to make way for the Alatus project. The $115-million DMC-designated project calls for a 13 story building with 347 residential units, a 560 space parking facility and commercial space.

The project includes a tax increment financing contribution of $10.5-million.
