More surgery for former MVP

CHICAGO (AP) — Derrick Rose has suffered yet another setback as the former NBA most valuable player tries to revive his career.

The Chicago Bulls guard will have surgery on his right knee for the second straight season. The 2011 NBA MVP played in only 10 games last year before he had surgery for the same injury in November 2013, shelving him for the year. The Bulls said a timetable for his return will be determined after the operation.

It's unclear when Rose re-injured the knee.

Curry shoots Warriors to victory

UNDATED (AP) — Golden State Warriors All-Star guard Stephen Curry was back in top form after missing Sunday's loss at Indiana with a sore right foot.

Curry poured in 32 points in less than 34 minutes as the Warriors downed the Wizards 114-107 in Washington. He hit 11 of his 18 shots, including 5 of 9 from 3-point range.

Klay Thompson finished with 17 points and Marreese Speights added 16 off the bench as the Western Conference leaders improved to 44-10 with their fifth victory in six games.

The Wizards have dropped four straight and nine of 11.

Also in the NBA on Tuesday:

— Cleveland won for the 17th time in 19 games as Kevin Love nailed eight 3-pointers and delivered 24 points in a 102-93 triumph at Detroit. LeBron James added 19 points and 11 assists, while Kyrie Irving chipped in 18 points.

— It's a seven-game winning streak for the Oklahoma City Thunder after Russell Westbrook's third triple-double of the season led a 105-92 triumph against Indiana. Westbrook had 20 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists before sitting out the entire fourth quarter.

— Monta Ellis scored 20 points and Dirk Nowitzki had 18 as the Dallas Mavericks claimed their third consecutive win, 99-92 over Toronto. The Mavs trailed by three before hitting seven of their first 10 shots in the fourth quarter.

TOP 25 MEN'S BASKETBALL

Terps end Badgers' winning streak

UNDATED (AP) — Fifth-ranked Wisconsin was unable to clinch at least a share of the Big Ten regular-season title.

The Badgers fell to a conference newcomer as Dez Wells scored 26 points to lead 14th-ranked Maryland past Wisconsin 58-53 in College Park. Melo Trimble added 16 points for the second-place Terrapins, who blew an 11-point halftime lead before closing on a 12-6 run.

The Badgers ended a 10-game winning streak and dropped to 25-3 overall, 13-2 in the conference.

In other top-25 action:

— Darrun Hilliard scored 19 of his game-high 24 points in the second half of sixth-ranked Villanova's 89-61 laugher against No. 25 Providence. JayVaughn Pinkston had 16 points and eight rebounds as the Wildcats wrapped up at least a share of their second straight Big East regular-season title.

— Ninth-ranked Notre Dame dropped to third in the ACC standings as B.J. Johnson scored 19 points and Rakeem Christmas added 14 to carry Syracuse past the Fighting Irish 65-60 at South Bend. The Orange improved to 18-10 overall in beating the Irish for the sixth time in their last seven meetings.

— Anthony "Cat" Barber scored 15 points and North Carolina State won at Chapel Hill for the first time in a dozen years by downing No. 15 North Carolina 58-46. Trevor Lacey and Ralston Turner each added 14 points to help the Wolfpack improve to 8-7 in the ACC and improve their chances for an NCAA tournament bid.

— Bobby Portis scored 22 points and No. 18 Arkansas earned its seventh straight win by outlasting Texas A&M 81-75. The Razorbacks have 12 wins in SEC play for the first time in two decades.

— No. 20 West Virginia was a 71-64 winner against Texas behind Devin Williams's 14 points. Daxter Miles Jr. and Jonathan Holton added 12 points apiece in the Mountaineers' 22nd win.

T25-KANSAS-KANSAS STATE AFTERMATH

KSU sorry for unruly fans

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Kansas State is getting ahead of the storm.

Wildcats athletic director John Currie promises to revisit the school's security procedures after an upset of eighth-ranked Kansas on Monday night resulted in fans storming the court. Jayhawks coach Bill Self was crushed against a press table, and Kansas forward, Jamari Traylor was body-checked by another fan. Assistant coach Kurtis Townsend had to peel away still more fans shouting profanities and making obscene gestures at his players.

Currie apologized in a lengthy statement to Kansas counterpart Sheahon Zenger, Self and his team. Kansas State intends to review video of the incident along with law enforcement personnel to identify fans who became unruly.

NHL-SCHEDULE

Habs, Preds win

UNDATED (AP) — The Montreal Canadiens padded their lead in the NHL's Atlantic Division standings while helping the Nashville Predators pad their lead in the Central Division.

Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher each scored twice and Carey Price earned his team-record ninth straight road win as the Canadiens knocked off St. Louis 5-2. The Habs led just 2-1 until Gallagher and Michael Bournival scored 48 seconds apart in the second period.

Price finished with 27 saves to backstop Montreal's ninth victory in its last 10 road games, which gives the Canadiens a three-point lead over Tampa Bay in the Atlantic.

The Habs also allowed the Predators to move nine points ahead of the second-place Blues in the Central. Nashville topped Colorado 5-2 as Pekka Rinne made 18 saves in his NHL-best 35th win. Roman Josi notched the game-winner and had an assist in the Predators' second straight victory.

In other NHL action:

— The Kings picked up their eighth straight win and Jonathan Quick claimed his fourth shutout of the season by stopping 20 shots in a 1-0 triumph over Detroit. Justin Williams scored a power-play goal 2:24 into the game before Los Angeles stayed three points behind the Canucks for second place in the Pacific Division.

— The New York Islanders ended a two-game skid by scoring four unanswered goals in a 5:52 span of the third period to beat Arizona 5-1. Matt Martin snapped a 1-1 tie and Johnny Boychuk scored 57 seconds later before Kael Mouillierat netted his first NHL goal. The outcome keeps the Metropolitan Division-leading Isles two points ahead of the Rangers.

— The Rangers are 7-0-1 in their last eight games after Cam Talbot turned back 21 shots in a 1-0 shutout of Calgary. Kevin Hayes scored three minutes into the third period to support Talbot's fourth shutout in 21 games this season.

— Jonathan Toews scored in regulation and the shootout to push Chicago past Florida 3-2. The Blackhawks played the last two periods without Patrick Kane, who slammed his left shoulder into the boards after he was cross-checked by Alex Petrovic.

— Vancouver improved to 3-1-0 on its five-game road trip by beating Boston 2-1 on Zack Kassian's goal with 13:13 remaining. Ryan Stanton also scored and Eddie Lack turned back 40 shots to help the Canucks solidify their hold on second place in the Pacific Division.

— Adam Lowry provided the go-ahead goal and Dustin Byfuglien scored the eventual game-winner in Winnipeg's 4-2 verdict over Dallas. Michael Hutchinson made 26 saves to help the Jets move four points ahead of Minnesota and five in front of Calgary and San Jose in the scramble for the last two West playoff berths.

— Edmonton cooled off Minnesota 2-1 as Benoit Pouliot scored twice and Ben Scrivens made 33 saves. The Wild dropped to 11-2-1 in their last 14 games, keeping them just one point ahead of the Flames and Sharks for the final Western Conference playoff slot.

— Carolina was a 4-1 winner against Philadelphia as Justin Faulk had a goal and an assist. The Flyers remain four points out of an Eastern Conference playoff spot after losing in regulation for only the second time in their last 14 games.

— Michal Neuvirth was brilliant in Buffalo's 4-2 win over Columbus, making 18 of his 46 saves in the third period. Sabres All-Star Zemgus Girgensons scored a short-handed goal and set up Chris Stewart's power-play tally.

Isles' Leddy, Kings' Nolan get extensions

UNDATED (AP) — New York Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy has agreed to a seven-year, $38.5 million contract extension. The 23-year-old Leddy has played in every Islanders game since being acquired from Chicago the weekend before the season opener, producing eight goals, 25 points and a plus-12. He was in the final year of his current contract and could have become a restricted free agent.

And Los Angeles Kings forward Jordan Nolan has signed a three-year extension. The 25-year-old Nolan has four goals in 36 games this season. Nolan was taken in the seventh round of the 2009 draft and has been a part of the Kings for their Stanley Cup titles in 2012 and last season.

Habs, Ducks swap wingers...Wild get Bergenheim

UNDATED (AP) — The Montreal Canadiens have traded rookie Jiri Sekac to the Anaheim Ducks for Devante Smith-Pelly in a swap of wingers.

Sekac has seven goals and 16 points in 50 games this season, while Smith-Pelly has produced five goals and 12 assists in 54 games.

Another NHL trade Tuesday has the Minnesota Wild picking up Florida Panthers forward Sean Bergenheim for a third-round choice in the 2016 draft. Bergenheim has eight goals and 18 points in 39 games this season.

MLB-TRAINING CAMPS

Stanton's ready to go

UNDATED (AP) — Giancarlo Stanton says he's fully recovered from the September beaning that ended his 2014 season and took him out of contention for the NL most valuable player award.

The Marlins slugger signed a $325 million, 13-year contract in November and is ready to mount a comeback from the beaning, which broke Stanton's orbital bone and damaged five teeth. He said his eyesight his fine, and he has no pain or fear about facing live pitching. However, he plans to try out a face guard to protect his left cheek.

Elsewhere:

— The Cardinals are sending ace Adam Wainwright to St. Louis to be examined by a doctor after his workout Tuesday was cut short by abdominal pain. General manager John Mozeliak told Cardinals.com that Wainwright would be seen by a doctor on Thursday before the team provides an update of Wainwright's condition. Wainwright threw his first bullpen session of spring training on Friday. The team said discomfort in his abdomen had bothered him in other drills and when running.

— Joba Chamberlain has agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract to return to the Detroit Tigers. The right-hander was a free agent this offseason. Chamberlain went 2-5 with a 3.57 ERA last year, but he struggled down the stretch, posting a 4.97 ERA after the All-Star break and allowing four earned runs over two postseason appearances.

NASCAR-BARRIERS

More barriers to be added at tracks

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — International Speedway is developing a plan for the installation of additional SAFER barriers at Daytona and Talladega, and will review the safety standards at its other racetracks.

The renewed focus comes three days after NASCAR star Kyle Busch broke his right leg and left foot in a crash into a concrete wall at Daytona that was not fitted with the barriers.

Love is US captain again

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Davis Love III has been named the U.S. Ryder Cup captain again. Love was captain in a losing effort at Medinah in 2012. He becomes the first repeat U.S. captain since Jack Nicklaus in 1987.

NFL-NEWS

Giants drop Kiwanuka

UNDATED (AP) — The New York Giants have released veteran defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka in a move that clears about $4.8 million of salary cap space. Kiwanuka's release was expected since he's been injury-prone and ineffective the past few seasons. The Giants now have nearly $23 million in cap room.

In other NFL news:

— A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press the Panthers have informed starting left tackle Byron Bell that he will not be re-signed. Pro Football Focus had Bell ranked as the second-worst left tackle in the league last season, allowing 11 sacks. He has started 56 games in the past four seasons for the Panthers.

— The Washington Redskins say the cancellation of their trademark violates their free speech rights. Attorneys for the team made their case in a federal court filing after the Redskins name was deemed to disparage Native Americans by the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board last year. The NFL team says the ruling unfairly singles it out.
