Arrieta stretches unbeaten streak
UNDATED (AP) — Chicago Cubs ace Jake Arrieta remains unbeaten since absorbing a loss to Philadelphia last July 25.
Arrieta is 7-0 after striking out 11 while allowing only three hits in eight innings of the Cubs' 8-2 thrashing of Pittsburgh. The three hits came in the fourth inning, including Francisco Cervelli's two-run single.
Arrieta is 18-0 with a 0.75 ERA in 21 starts since last August 1. The Cubs have won each of those starts.
Anthony Rizzo belted a three-run homer and had four RBIs as the Cubs improved to 5-0 versus the Bucs this season. Addison Russell added a two-run shot for Chicago, which is a major league-best 27-8.
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Orioles have unseated the Chicago White Sox as the top team in the American League. Jonathan Schoop (skohp) was the hitting star in the Orioles' seventh consecutive win, belting a grand slam and a solo homer in a 9-3 romp over Detroit. Matt Wieters and Adam Jones also went deep for the O's, who are 23-12 after tying their longest win streak of the year.
Winning pitcher Mike Wright gave up two runs and just three hits in seven innings.

— David Ortiz capped his three-RBI performance by hitting a walk-off double in the 11th inning of Boston's sixth victory in seven games, 6-5 over Houston. Ortiz tripled home the tying run in the ninth and moved into 20th place on the all-time home run list with his 513th, a solo blast in the third after the Astros took a 5-2 lead. Jackie Bradley stretched his hitting streak to 20 games, and Xander Bogaerts added three hits and three runs scored.
— The Nationals took the opener of a day-night doubleheader as Wilson Ramos hit a solo homer and Stephen Strasburg improved to 6-0 by allowing three runs and five hits in six innings of Washington's 6-4 victory against Miami. Anthony Rendon and Jayson Werth each had two hits and an RBI as the Nationals won for the fourth time in five games since absorbing a four-game sweep by the Cubs last weekend.
— Miami bounced back in the nightcap as Marcell Ozuna went 3-for-5 with a two-run single and two runs scored in a 7-1 triumph at Washington. J.T. Realmuto hit a two-run single and Justin Bour ripped a solo shot while the Marlins held the Nationals to five hits.
— DJ LeMahieu and Tony Wolters drove in two runs apiece as Colorado dealt the New York Mets their third straight loss, 7-4. Wolters laced a two-run double while the Rockies scored five times in the third to take a 7-2 lead.
— Buster Posey's two-run double in the ninth was the difference in San Francisco's 5-3 win at Arizona. Hunter Pence launched his 200th career home run, a two-run shot that put the Giants ahead 3-1 in the fourth.
— The Dodgers downed St. Louis 5-1 as Scott Kazmir came within one out of a complete game, allowing three runs and five hits. Corey Seager and Adrian Gonzalez each hit solo homers and collected two RBIs in the Dodgers' third straight win.
— Derek Norris and Melvin Upton Jr. homered in the 12th inning to push San Diego past the Brewers 8-7 in Milwaukee. Matt Kemp hit a solo homer and had three RBIs for the Padres, while Upton was 4-for-5 with two ribbbies.
— Left fielder Tyler Goeddel threw out Eugenio Suarez at the plate to complete a game-ending double play in Philadelphia's 4-3 verdict over Cincinnati. Odubel Herrera had two RBIs, including a solo blast that put the Phillies ahead 4-2 in the seventh.
— The Angels squandered a 6-2 lead in the eighth before Albert Pujols crushed a three-run homer in the ninth to give Los Angeles a 9-7 triumph at Seattle. Mike Trout, Kole Calhoun and John Giovatella als provided round-trippers to help the Angels beat the Mariners for the second straight night.
— Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman combined to strike out eight over 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief as the New York Yankees nipped the White Sox 2-1. Didi Gregorius had three of the Yankees' five hits, including an RBI single that made it 2-0 in the second inning.
— Matt Andriese fired a two-hitter and Brad Miller socked a two-run homer in Tampa Bay's 5-0 blanking of Oakland. Brandon Guyer added a two-run single to back Andriese's first major league shutout.
— Juan Centeno smacked a two-run homer and Ervin Santana gave up a run and five hits in six innings of Minnesota's 6-3 win at Cleveland. Indians starter Corey Kluber dropped to 2-5 with a 4.30 earned run average.
— Texas squandered a 5-2 lead in the ninth before beating Toronto 6-5 on Drew Stubb's homer with two out in the bottom of the 10th. Bobby Wilson hit his second grand slam of the week, but the Blue Jays managed to tie it on back-to-back homers by Justin Smoak and Troy Tulowitzki.
— Atlanta shut out the defending champs as Mike Foltynewicz scattered seven hits in eight innings of the Braves' 5-0 win over Kansas City. Kelly Johnson stroked a two-run single and A.J. Pierzynski added a two-run double to help the Braves win for only the second time in nine games.

Nats pick up Rizzo's option
UNDATED (AP) — Washington Nationals president of baseball operations and GM Mike Rizzo is now under contract through the 2018 season. The Nats have exercised their option for Rizzo, who joined the organization in 2007 and was named GM in 2010.
Rizzo was promoted to president of baseball ops three years ago.
In other major league news:
— Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Logan Forsythe has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a hairline fracture of his left shoulder blade. The move is retroactive to May 10, when Forsythe was hit on the shoulder by a pitch from Mariners ace Felix Hernandez.
— The St. Louis Cardinals have put right-hander Seth Maness on the disabled list rather than demoting him to Triple-A Memphis. Maness has inflammation in his pitching elbow.
— The Yankees made several moves, including the promotion of right-handers Chad Green and Conor Mullee from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The Yanks also shipped rookie catcher Gary Sanchez back to Triple-A and placed starting pitcher Luis Severino on the 15-day disabled list with an arm injury.
— Outfielder Michael Brantley is back on the Indians' 15-day disabled list due to soreness and fatigue in his surgically-repaired shoulder. Brantley was batting .231 with seven RBIs.
— Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is sitting out tonight's game against Miami after dropping his appeal of a one-game suspension. The reigning NL MVP was suspended and fined Wednesday by Major League Baseball for his behavior following an ejection in Monday's 5-4 win over Detroit.
— Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun was a late scratch from the lineup tonight against San Diego because of a sore right wrist. Braun is hitting .367 with seven homers and 27 RBIs.

Day holds onto lead
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Jason Day will carry a four-stroke lead into the final round of The Players Championship.
Day shot a 1-over 73 on Saturday after setting the tournament's 36-hole record with a 15-under total. Day overcame a pair of double bogeys with a strong finish to his third round, chipping in from 50 feet for par on 15 and sinking a birdie on the next hole.
Ken Duke, Alex Cejka and Hideki Matsuyama are tied for second, one stroke ahead of Francesco Molinari. Duke moved up the leaderboard with a 65.

Pagenaud gets third straight win
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Simon Pagenaud has earned his third straight IndyCar win taking the checkered flag at the Grand Prix of Indianapolis.
The French driver inherited the lead when Team Penske teammate Helio Castroneves pitted with 20 laps to go and held off the Brazilian for the win.
Pagenaud mastered the 14-turn, road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to increase his lead in the championship standings to 76 points over Scott Dixon heading into preparations for the Indianapolis 500 in two weeks.

Lewis Hamilton wins pole position for Spanish GP
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Lewis Hamilton edged Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg to win the pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix.
Hamilton qualified nearly three-tenths of a second faster than his teammate for his third pole of the season.
Hamilton is trying to end a seven-race winless drought.

Canada advances
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Canada secured a place in the quarterfinals of the world ice hockey championship by beating Slovakia 5-0.
Derick Brassard had a goal and as assist as five different players scored for Canada. Edmonton goaltender Cam Talbot made 18 saves in Canada's second shutout of the championship.
Finland and host Russia also nailed down quarterfinal berths.
