Curry's 40 leads 20-0 Warriors...Raptors, Pistons, Rockets rally from double-digit deficits

UNDATED (AP) — The Golden State Warriors are 20-game winners. Continuing their perfect start to the NBA season, the Warriors thrashed Charlotte 116-99 to set a franchise record with their 10th straight road victory.

Stephen Curry led the scoring parade with 40 -- in three quarters. He made 14 of 18 shots, going 8 of 11 from beyond the arc. He had 28 points in the third period when the Warriors took charge. Curry scored the Warriors' last 24 points of the third quarter.

The reigning MVP sat out the entire fourth quarter due to the big lead. Klay Thompson scored 15 of his 21 in the first quarter.

In other NBA:

— Pau Gasol had 26 points and 19 rebounds to lead Chicago to a 99-90 win over the Denver Nuggets. Gasol shot 12 for 19 from the field and had his fifth consecutive double-double.

— Kyle Lowry scored 22 of his season-high 31 points in the fourth quarter, DeMar DeRozan added 17 points and the Toronto Raptors rallied from 17 down in the third to beat the Atlanta Hawks 96-86.

— San Antonio is a perfect 10-0 at home. Tim Duncan had 16 points and 10 rebounds in 19 minutes, and the Spurs remained posted a 95-70 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.

— Reggie Jackson scored 24 of his 34 points after halftime, and the Detroit Pistons rallied from 16 down in the fourth quarter to beat the Phoenix Suns 127-122 in overtime.

— James Harden scored 24 points and the Houston Rockets overcame a 14-point deficit for a 108-101 win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

— In his farewell appearance in the Nation's Capital, Kobe Bryant looked like vintage Kobe. Bryant poured in 31 points, including four 3-pointers, in leading the L.A. Lakers past Washington 108-104. The Lakers are 3-15

__ New York rookie Kristaps Porzingis had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the New York Knicks to a 99-87 victory the Philadelphia 76ers, who are 1-19.

— The Indiana Pacers scored a 103-91 road victory over the L.A. Clippers. Paul George had a big night for Indiana with 31 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. The Pacers are 11-5.

Sixers suspend Okafor 2 games

UNDATED (AP) — The Philadelphia 76ers have suspended center Jahlil Okafor for two games, expressing disappointment for recent behavior including a fight outside a Boston nightclub and reckless driving on a bridge.

The 19-year-old rookie has said he is embarrassed by his behavior. He said the fight happened when he was responding to heckling by fans.

Isles win Battle of Hudson

UNDATED (AP) — The latest battle of New York, New York goes to the Islanders. Kyle Okposo scored the only goal in the shootout to lift the Islanders to a 2-1 victory over the crosstown-rival Rangers at Barclays Center.

John Tavares scored in regulation. Jaroslav Halak had 33 saves through overtime and then stopped all three Rangers attempts in the shootout to give the Islanders their fourth win in five games.

Viktor Stalberg scored the tying goal in the second period, and Henrik Lundqvist had 36 saves for the Rangers, who lost for the fourth time in five games.

In other hockey:

— Drew Stafford scored twice and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 32 shots to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a 6-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

— Tampa Bay scored twice in the middle period and downed the Anaheim Ducks 2-1. Jonathan Marchessault scored the go-ahead goal for the Lightning.

Jordan Eberle scored in the shootout to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-2 victory over Boston. That ends the Bruins' five-game winning streak.

8-0 Spartans rally past Cardinals

UNDATED (AP)— Denzel Valentine had 25 points and Bryn Forbes scored a season-high 20 to help third-ranked Michigan State come back to beat No. 24 Louisville 71-67 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

The Spartans are 8-0. They trailed by as much as 13 in the first half and took their first lead with 6:47 left.

NFL-OWNERS MEETINGS

Owners push back decision on relocation vote

IRVING, Texas (AP) — NFL owners have set a special meeting to deal with a possible relocation of teams to Los Angeles for Jan. 12-13 in Houston. But Commissioner Roger Goodell says there might not even be a vote then.

The owners pushed back a decision while they seek more information from the cities hoping to retain their franchises. They are St. Louis, Oakland and San Diego.

L.A. has not had an NFL franchise since the Rams and Raiders left after the 1994 season.

Commissioner blows whistle on refs

IRVING, Texas (AP) — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has asked the league's powerful competition committee to look into how games are officiated, and the size of the rule book.

He has asked the competition committee to look into clarifying and simplifying the rules, as well as how the league trains officials. Goodell says "no stone will be left unturned" in examining and improving officiating.

Roethlisberger cleared to play

UNDATED (AP) — Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been cleared to play in Sunday night's game with visiting Indianapolis. He was struck in the head late in last week's 39-30 loss to Seattle and eventually left the game. Roethlisberger has been cleared of the concussion protocol.

Michigan's Durkin gets Maryland job

UNDATED (AP) — Maryland has hired Michigan defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin to be its head football coach. The 37-year-old led a Wolverines defense that ranks fourth in the nation in yards allowed per game in his first year on the job. Before working at Michigan, Durkin was the defensive coordinator at Florida for two years.

Durkin replaces Randy Edsall, who was fired midway through a 3-9 season.

AP source: Richt lands in Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Mark Richt is going back to where his college career began.

The former Miami quarterback has reached a tentative agreement to be the Hurricanes' next head coach, pending the completion of contract talks. That' what a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press. The university has not announced the hire publicly.

Richt spent the last 15 seasons as the head coach at Georgia, averaging nearly 10 wins a season and leading the Bulldogs to a pair of Southeastern Conference championships.

The Hurricanes have been rebuilding for a decade and haven't won a bowl game since 2006.

Alabama DC in line for 'Dawgs job

ATLANTA (AP)— ESPN and the Atlanta Journal Constitution report Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart was Georgia's selection late Tuesday night. Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity did not reply to an interview request from The Associated Press on the status of the search. Smart's agent, Jimmy Sexton, could not be reached for comment.

Alabama coach Nick Saban, meanwhile, didn't take any questions about Smart's future on Wednesday. However, he did address the reports after Wednesday's practice, saying, it's not his "position to confirm any of this stuff, and I really can't confirm it.

Gators get top receiver back for Alabama

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — No. 18 Florida will have leading receiver Demarcus Robinson back for the Southeastern Conference championship game against second-ranked Alabama.

Coach Jim McElwain announced after practice Wednesday that Robinson has been reinstated, a decision made by the team's seniors.

Robinson leads the Gators with 47 receptions this year.

BYU accepts bid, to play Pac-12 team

PROVO, Utah (AP) — BYU has accepted an invitation to the Las Vegas Bowl. The bowl has a tie-in with the Pac-12 and is expected to announce the other participant Sunday.

BYU finished 9-3, including wins against Nebraska and Boise State. This will be the 11th consecutive bowl for the Cougars under coach Bronco Mendenhall.

UNDATED (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have stepped up in the free agent market in an attempt to make themselves relevant in the American League East. They've picked up pitcher David Price and outfielder Chris Young.

The deal for Price is estimated to be worth $217 million over seven years. It has not been confirmed yet but a source has told The Associated Press the two sides have agreed to the contract. The left-hander went 18-5 with a 2.45 ERA in 2015, striking out 225 while playing for the Tigers and Blue Jays.

Young gets a two-year, $13 million deal. The 32-year-old had been with the Yankees since August 2014 and hit .252 with 14 homers and 42 RBIs in 318 at-bats for the New Yorkers. Young has a .235 career average with 169 homers and 528 RBIs over 10 seasons.

Elsewhere in the majors:

— Versatile pitcher Yusmeiro Petit, whose brilliant postseason in 2014 helped the Giants capture their third World Series championship in five years, was not offered a 2016 contract by San Francisco and became a free agent. Catcher Hector Sanchez also was not offered a deal.

— The Houston Astros declined to offer Chris Carter a contract for 2016, making the slugger a free agent. Carter hit .199 with 24 homers and 64 RBIs this season.

— Catcher A.J. Ellis has agreed to a $4.5 million, one-year contract to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers, avoiding arbitration. The 34-year-old Ellis has spent his entire major league career with the Dodgers, batting .241 with 35 homers and 178 RBIs over parts of eight seasons.

— The Cubs have agreed to a $1.42 million, one-year contract with recently acquired reliever Rex Brothers. The left-hander was obtained from Colorado last week for minor league pitcher Wander Cabrera.

— The Indians have acquired outfielder Collin Cowgill from the Los Angeles Angels for cash. Cowgill spent the past 2 1/2 seasons with the Angels. The 29-year-old has a career .236 average with 12 homers and 57 RBIs in 308 major league games.

— The Seattle Mariners' ongoing roster makeover now includes outfielder Nori Aoki. Two people with knowledge of the deal say the Mariners and the free agent outfielder have reached agreement on a contract for the 2016 season pending a physical.

— The Padres have traded first baseman Yonder Alonso and reliever Marc Rzepczynski to the Oakland A's for left-hander Drew Pomeranz and minor league pitcher Jose Torres, plus either a player to be named or cash.

F1-US GRAND PRIX

Financially strapped race "subject to agreement" for 2016

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The future of the struggling U.S. Grand Prix was thrown into further doubt Wednesday when the 2016 Formula One calendar listed the race as "subject to agreement" with the promoter.

The 2016 race calendar released by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council still has the race scheduled for Oct. 23 but with an asterisk.

FIA called the race date "provisional."
