Cueto outduels Scherzer

UNDATED (AP) — Johnny Cueto is one of the five players hoping to land the final National League All-Star berth for next week's game in Cincinnati. Cueto gave the voters something to remember by firing a two-hitter while striking out 11 in the Reds' 5-0 shutout of the Nationals in Washington on Tuesday. He preserved the shutout by fanning three straight Nats after Ian Desmond tripled leading off the bottom of the fifth.

Cueto outdueled All-Star Max Scherzer, who was chased after surrendering all five runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Joey Votto drove in three runs and came within a triple of the cycle to help the Reds beat the Nationals for the second straight night.

Also in the majors:

— Jake Arrieta pitched into the seventh inning and collected a career-high two hits as the Chicago Cubs downed St. Louis 7-4 in Game 1 of a day-night doubleheader. Anthony Rizzo smacked a two-run homer while the Cubs scored four times in the eighth after the Cardinals pulled within 3-2. Chris Denorfia had two hits and three RBIs as the Cubbies beat the Redbirds for the first time in their last six meetings.

— The Cubs completed the sweep by putting together a three-run seventh in a 5-3 victory. Addison Russell singled home the tying run in the seventh before Jonathan Herrera scored on a throwing error by reliever Kevin Siegrist.

— Pittsburgh pulled out a 3-2 win over San Diego on Gregory Polanco's RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth. Jung Ho Kang also tripled home a run and Andrew McCutchen lined an RBI double after Matt Kemp's two-run double put the Padres ahead 2-0 in the third. The Pirates' fourth straight win leaves them five games behind the NL Central-leading Cardinals.

— Brett Lawrie bashed a solo homer off Dellin Betances leading off the 10th inning to send Oakland past the New York Yankees 4-3. Billy Butler tied the game with a solo shot in the sixth before Lawrie's blast sent the Yankees to their fifth loss in eight games. Sonny Gray gave up two runs in seven innings to get a no-decision in his first start since an illness sent him to the hospital.

— Toronto was a 2-1 winner over the Chicago White Sox as Felix Doubront allowed a run and six hits in 6 2/3 innings. Josh Donaldson homered for the second straight night to help the Blue Jays move into a second-place tie with Baltimore in the AL East, 1 1/2 games behind the Yankees.

— The Orioles were 8-3 losers in Minnesota. Miguel Sano hit his first major league home run and had three RBIs for the Twins, who are 4 ½ games behind the AL Central-leading Royals. Eddie Rosario delivered a two-run single, and winning pitcher Kyle Gibson gave up two runs while whiffing seven in six innings.

— Paulo Orlando launched a walk-off grand slam off Brad Boxberger with one out in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Royals past Tampa Bay 9-5 in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Orlando had homered just once in his first 116 major league at-bats before going deep against the All-Star reliever. Alex Gordon smacked a solo homer and Kendrys Morales hit a two-run single as the Royals overcame home runs by James Loney and Evan Longoria.

— Kansas City swept the twinbill by getting four RBIs from Alex Gordon in a 7-1 win over the Rays. Gordon was 4-for-5 with a two-run double and a pair of RBI singles. Alcides Escobar also laced a two-run double in the Royals' third consecutive win.

— Cleveland blanked Houston 2-0 as Corey Kluber held the Astros to five hits while striking out seven in 6 2/3 innings. Michael Brantley smacked a solo homer and David Murphy doubled home the Indians' first run. The Astros have dropped three of four since a five-game winning streak.

— Albert Pujols and Mike Trout belted three-run homers while the Angels were building a 10-0 lead by the third inning of a 10-2 rout of Colorado. Matt Joyce and Chris Ianetta  also went deep as the Angels earned their fourth straight win to climb within three games of the AL West-leading Astros. The Rockies lost for the eighth time in 10 games.

— Jeff Francoeur socked a solo homer and had three RBIs as Philadelphia hammered the Dodgers 7-2 in Los Angeles. Ben Revere hit a two-run single and Chad Billingsley worked six innings to help baseball's worst team improve to 29-57. Yasmani Grandal cracked a two-run homer for the Dodgers, who top the NL West by four games over San Francisco.

— Hunter Pence made a triumphant return as the Giants blanked the Mets 3-0 to end a seven-game skid. The right-fielder had two RBIs and threw out Curtis Granderson at the plate in his first action since missing more than a month with tendinitis in his left wrist. Matt Cain tossed two-hit ball in six innings to help the Giants keep the Mets 3 ½ games behind the NL East-leading Nationals.

— Manny Banuelos looked good in Atlanta's 4-3 victory in Milwaukee, allowing a run and five hits over 5 1/3 innings. A.J. Pierzynski was 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBIs to support Banuelos' first major league win. Jonathan Lucroy and Adam Lind homered for the Brewers, who have dropped two straight since winning eight in a row.

— Seattle and Detroit combined for seven homers before Robinson Cano's RBI single in the bottom of the 11th completed the Mariners' 7-6 win over the Tigers. Cano also belted one of the Mariners' three home runs after Austin Jackson launched a grand slam. The Tigers fell despite long balls from Nick Castellanos (kas-tee-AH'-nohs), Marc Kraus, Alex Avila and Yoenis Cespedes.

— Jake Lamb was 3-for-4 with a two-run single in Arizona's 4-2 verdict over Texas. Robbie Ray carried a shutout into the eighth and limited the Rangers to a pair of unearned runs and four hits in 7 2/3 innings.

— Xander Bogaerts lined a three-run single in the seventh inning to turn Boston's 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 win over Miami. Travis Shaw had three of the Red Sox's eight hits.

Pujols in HR derby

UNDATED (AP) — Angels first baseman Albert Pujols says he will participate in the All-Star Home Run Derby in Cincinnati next Monday.

Pujols said he wanted to be a part of the competition after being picked for the AL All-Star team this week. He will start the game in place of Detroit's Miguel Cabrera, who went on the disabled list for the first time in his 13-year career with a strained calf.

In other major league news:

— The San Francisco Giants activated outfielder Hunter Pence from the disabled list before Tuesday's game against the New York Mets. Pence had been sidelined more than a month with tendinitis in his left wrist.

— Reliever Jenrry Mejia has rejoined the Mets after completing an 80-game suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. Mejia was suspended in April after testing positive for the steroid Stanozolol.

— Yankees closer Andrew Miller and center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury are expected to come off the disabled list before Wednesday night's game against Oakland. Miller has been sidelined since June 10 with a strained left forearm, while Ellsbury has been out since May 20 due to a sprained right knee.

— The Texas Rangers have agreed to terms with Cuban infielder Andy Ibanez on an international free-agent contract. The 22-year-old Ibanez hit .283 with 13 home runs during the past three seasons in Cuba's top league.

TENNIS-WIMBLEDON

Serena, Sharapova advance...Men's quarters on tap

LONDON (AP) — Top seed Serena Williams will lock horns with No. 4 Maria Sharapova in the Wimbledon women's semifinals on Thursday. Both needed three sets to earn victories on Tuesday.

Williams dropped her opening set and trailed 2-0 in the second before winning the next seven games in a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 triumph over No. 21 Victoria Azarenka. Williams is still in line to complete a single-season Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open and French Open.

Sharapova advanced with a 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 win over first-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist CoCo Vandeweghe. The road to the final will be tough for Sharapova, who is 2-17 lifetime against Williams and has dropped their last 16 meetings.

The other semifinal match will have 13th seed Agnieszka Radwanska against Garbine Muguruza. Radwanska was a 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 winner against American and 13th seed Madison Keys. Muguruza beat Timea Bacsinszky, 7-5, 6-3.

Men's top seed Novak Djokovic has moved into the quarterfinals, completing a 6-7, 6-7, 6-1, 6-4, 7-5 comeback win over Kevin Anderson. The match was suspended at two sets all by darkness Monday, and the two had to endure a brief delay of the restart due to rain.

Djokovic has a date with reigning U.S. Open champ Marin Cilic in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Today's Wimbledon schedule is highlighted by men's quarterfinal action. Top seed Novak Djokovic takes on Marin Cilic in the second match at Centre Court after third seed Andy Murray faces Vasek Pospisil. Second seed Roger Federer battles Gilles Simon and No. 4 Stan Wawrinka goes against Richard Gasquet in the other quarterfinal matches.

PGA moving Grand Slam from Trump course

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The PGA of America is moving its Grand Slam of Golf from Donald Trump's golf course in Los Angeles.

Trump says he met with the PGA of America and both sides agreed it would be best to not play the 36-hole exhibition at Trump National Golf Club.

The Republican presidential candidate has come under fire for calling Mexican immigrant criminals and rapists. That has prompted several businesses to cut ties with Trump.

The 36-hole Grand Slam of Golf is for the major champions of the year.

GOLF-STALLINGS SUSPENDED

Golfer Stallings suspended

UNDATED (AP) — Scott Stallings has been suspended for three months for violating the PGA Tour's anti-doping policy.

Stallings says in a statement that he took a supplement to help with chronic fatigue in February. He says when he realized it was on the tour's list of banned substances, he notified the tour.

Stallings is the third player to be suspended since the anti-doping policy began in 2008. The 30-year old is the first PGA Tour winner to be suspended.

NBA-WARRIORS-CELTICS TRADE

AP Source: Warriors trade Lee to Boston

UNDATED (AP) — A person with knowledge of the deal says the Golden State Warriors are sending forward David Lee to the Boston Celtics for Gerald Wallace.

Lee is due to make $15.4 million next season and became expendable following the emergence of Draymond Green. The former All-Star played the fewest minutes of his career and averaged just 7.9 points per game, the lowest since his rookie year with the Knicks in 2005-06.

Wallace barely got off the bench for the Celtics and averaged 1.1 points a game last season.

— Center Marc Gasol has confirmed that he will sign a new five-year contract with the Grizzlies, a deal that's expected to be worth more than 100 million dollars. The 7-foot-1 Marc Gasol is coming off the best season of his seven-year NBA career. He averaged 17.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists last season for Memphis.

— Charlie Villanueva has announced on Twitter that he will return for a second season with the Dallas Mavericks. The 30-year-old Villanueva averaged 6.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 64 games for the Mavericks, including one start. He was fourth on the team with 83 3-pointers.

NHL-BLUES-TARASENKO

Blues lock up young star

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Blues say they have signed star forward Vladimir Tarasenko to an eight-year, $60 million contract. The 23-year old made his first All-Star game appearance last season when he scored 73 points, including 37 goals.

Tarasenko has 135 points (66 goals, 69 assists) in 179 career regular-season games over parts of three seasons. He also has 10 goals and an assist in 13 playoff games.

SOCCER-GOLD CUP

Americans win opener

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — The U.S. men's soccer team has opened its CONCACAF Gold Cup title defense by beating Honduras 2-1 in Frisco, Texas.

Clint Dempsey scored twice on headers set up by Michael Bradley, who wore the captain's arm band in his 100th international appearance. Dempsey tallied in the 25th and 64th minutes to put the Americans up 2-0.

SOCCER-US WOMEN'S TEAM

U.S. squad enjoys a victory lap

NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. women's soccer team is taking a 3,000-mile victory lap.

The team was honored at a rally in Los Angeles on Tuesday and will participate in a parade up the Canyon of Heroes in Manhattan on Friday morning. The Americans also have been invited to the White House following their 5-2 victory over Japan in the Women's World Cup championship game.

CYCLING-TOUR DE FRANCE

Martin takes lead

CAMBRAI, France (AP) — German rider Tony Martin has won the fourth stage of the Tour de France to take the overall lead.

Martin started the day in second place overall, one second behind Britain's Chris Froome.

He now leads Froome by 12 seconds and American Tejay Van Garderen by 25 seconds.

BOXING-KLITSCHKO-FURY

Title bout set

LONDON (AP) — Promoters say unbeaten British boxer Tyson Fury will challenge Wladimir Klitschko for his world heavyweight titles in a bout in Germany in October.

The 39-year-old Klitschko is the WBA, IBF and WBO champion. The fight will be a record 28th heavyweight title bout for him. Klitschko hasn't lost a fight in 11 years.

The 26-year-old Fury is undefeated in 24 fights.
