Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester woman has thrown her hat into the ring for a seat on the Olmsted County Board.

She announced her intention to run for the third district seat on the county board, which comprises eastern Rochester. 

In her announcement April Sutor her “four decades of experience empowering individuals, building stronger communities, and fostering collaboration among residents, businesses, nonprofits, and government.”

Sutor recently retired from her role as Director of Innovation and Collaboration at Family Service Rochester, the announcement says. 

While serving in that role Sutor said she “led senior independence services, fostering collaborations to keep older adults and individuals with disabilities thriving in their homes and communities. While at Family Service Rochester, she also led the Meadow Park Initiative, a place-based, neighborhood initiative empowering residents, engaging youth, and improving access to services.” 

If elected Sutor plans to prioritize affordable housing, fiscal responsibility, implementing the county’s recently approved strategic plan and addressing other issues, according to the campaign announcement.

[Rochester, MN] – April Sutor officially announces her candidacy for District 3 Olmsted County Commissioner in the upcoming election. Sutor brings to the campaign her four decades of experience empowering individuals, building stronger communities, and fostering collaboration among residents, businesses, nonprofits, and government.

In a statement released today, Sutor expressed her dedication to Olmsted County and her passion for championing the needs of Olmsted County residents.

Sutor says she will prioritize adequate, affordable housing for our growing older adult population and first-time homeowners; building a sustainable, resilient county; responsible fiscal policy balancing immediate and long-term costs; addressing needs arising from increasing life and health spans; and implementing the county's strategic plan.

Sutor holds an education degree from Southwest State University and a masters in public administration from the University of Montana. She recently retired as Director of Innovation and Collaboration at Family Service Rochester where she led senior independence services, fostering collaborations to keep older adults and individuals with disabilities thriving in their homes and communities. While at Family Service Rochester, she also led the Meadow Park Initiative, a place-based, neighborhood initiative empowering residents, engaging youth, and improving access to services.

Gregg Wright currently holds the Third District Seat on the Olmsted County Board. He has not yet announced whether or not he plans to seek reelection. 

The two week window to file for this year’s election opens on Tuesday. Election Day 2024 is Nov. 5.
