Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The motorist arrested after a vehicle-pedestrian collision in Rochester last week is now facing assault charges.

She made her first appearance in the case on Monday. The vehicle-pedestrian collision occurred on the morning of July 3 at a Rochester apartment complex.

Rochester police said a squad car was also struck by the motorist during the ordeal

Assault Charges Filed Against Driver of Car That Hit Man in Parking Lot of Rochester Apartment Complex

22-year-old Hafsa Mohamed is charged with second and third-degree assault, third-degree property damage, two counts of DWI and one count of disorderly conduct.

The criminal complaint accuses Mohamed of driving her vehicle at a man and woman while all three were in the parking lot of the Riverview Suites apartment complex at 211 1st St. Northeast. 

The woman told police Mohamed got into her vehicle and drove at her and the man. She hit the man with her vehicle then ran him over, the charges say.

The woman said Mohamed also hit her with the vehicle but said she was not injured. The man was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for care of a broken femur and other external injuries, the complaint says.

Mohamed was still at the scene and behind the wheel when police arrived. A Responding officer parked their squad vehicle to block Mohamed in. 

The Rochester woman then rammed the officer’s squad vehicle multiple times before the situation was resolved, the complaint says. No officer injuries were reported.

Mohamed was displaying signs of impairment and given a preliminary breath test that measured her blood alcohol content at .146, the charges say. Investigators also obtained a warrant to take a sample of Mohamed’s blood for testing.

Conditional bail for Mohammed was set at $25,000 following her first court appearance. She is due back in court later this month.
