Update: State Patrol ID's Austin Man Killed in Head-on Crash With Semi
Austin, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a deadly collision involving a semi-truck near Austin early today.
The fatal crash was reported around 2:40 a.m. on Highway 218, about five miles north of Austin near the town of Lansing in Mower County. The State Patrol says the victim was driving an SUV south on the highway when it collided head-on with the northbound truck.
Identification Pending
The deceased motorist’s name has not been released, but the State Patrol indicated he was a 31-year-old man from Austin.

Canadian Truck Driver
The driver of the semi-truck was identified as 39-year-old Labh Singh Banger of Regina. He was not injured, but his passenger was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He was identified as 47-year-old Varinder Bawa, also of Regina.
The State Patrol says both occupants of the truck were wearing seat belts, and alcohol was not detected in the driver.
