Appeals Court Asked to Review Former Mayo Doctor’s Murder Case

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Legal motions filed in Olmsted County court this week indicate the defense team for a former Mayo Clinic physician charged with murdering his wife has asked the Minnesota Court of Appeals to consider overturning a local judge's recent decision denying a request to throw out a grand jury indictment in the case.

Accused of Murdering His Wife With Gout Medication

Thirty-three-year-old Connor Bowman was indicted in 2024 on first- and second-degree murder charges alleging he poisoned his 32-year-old wife in August 2023. Prosecutors allege he gave fellow Mayo Clinic physician Dr. Betty Bowman a lethal dose of a medication used to treat gout.

Grand Jury Indictment Stands Despite Prosecutorial Misconduct

Bowman's defense attorneys filed a motion last December seeking to dismiss the indictment, claiming the state committed prosecutorial misconduct while presenting the case to the grand jury. In her ruling, the presiding judge acknowledged that prosecutorial misconduct had occurred but determined Bowman "suffered no prejudice and there was no effect on any of the defendant's substantial rights."

It's unclear when the Minnesota Court of Appeals will consider Bowman's request. He remains in custody at the Olmsted County jail on $2 million bail.
