Strewartville, MN (KROC-AM News) - A major area employer is delivering some bad news to its employees this week.

Stewartville City Administrator Bill Schimmel says the C.R. Bard Corporation has announced plans to phase out production at its 3 facilities in Stewartville this year. Schimmel says representatives of the company met with himself, the Stewartville Mayor, and two area lawmakers on Wednesday and confirmed the plans to shut down operations by the end of the year.

C.R. Bard is a major medical device maker and acquired the former Rochester Medical Corporation in Stewartville in 2013 in a deal valued at over $230 million.

Closing down the Stewartville operations will impact about 185 employees. Schimmel says the company indicated it was working on and assistance package for those workers
