Neighbors say authorities with guns drawn broke windows and used a cutting torch to get into the garage. A neighbor says an old friend of Farook's is the person that lives in the house.

A law enforcement official says that more than three years ago, that person bought two assault rifles later used in the shooting, but authorities haven't been able to talk to him because he checked himself into a mental hospital after the attack. The official was not allowed to discuss the investigation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The FBI has said the man is not a suspect in shootings, though they want to question him.

Obama to give address after California shootings

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will address the nation from the Oval Office Sunday in prime time about steps the government is taking to keep people safe after the attack last week in San Bernardino, California.

The White House says that during the 8 p.m. address Obama will provide an update on the attack that killed 14 and wounded 21, and will also discuss the broader threat of terrorism. He will talk about the nature of the threat, how it has evolved and how he plans to defeat it.

Obama will talk more about his determination that the Islamic State group must be destroyed. And he will make the case that the United States must draw on the nation's values — its commitment to justice, equality and freedom — to prevail.

Virginia governor: Liberty president statement 'repugnant'

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. is urging students, staff and faculty at his Christian school to get a permit to carry a concealed weapon on campus to counter any copycat attack like the recent deadly rampage in California.

Falwell told an estimated 10,000 of the campus community at convocation Friday in Lynchburg, Virginia --quote-- "Let's teach them a lesson if they ever show up here." While Falwell's call to arms was applauded, his remarks also seemed to target Muslims.

He said -- quote -- "I've always thought if more good people had concealed carry permits, then we could end those Muslims before they walked in .," The final words of his statement could not be clearly heard on a videotape of the remarks.

However, Falwell tells The Associated Press he was specifically referring to Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, the husband and wife who shot and killed 14 people at a holiday party in San Bernardino on Wednesday.

Falwell's remarks have generated a sharp rebuke from Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who called the comments "reckless" as well as "rash and repugnant."
