The device is suspected to have been on the card reader for about a month. It’s not the first time a credit card skimmer has been located at a national retailer in southeast Minnesota.

Last July, Rochester police reported finding skimmers at a pair of unnamed large retailers in Rochester. Police shared tips on how to identify a card skimmer.

It was suspected of being placed on a card reader on Dec. 13 of last year and was removed on Monday, the news release says.

Staff at the store believe the skimmer only collected numbers from cards that were swiped at the transaction terminal, not from cards that used the chip reader, authorities say.

Store management and Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office are working to identify the person or persons responsible for placing the device, the news release says.

Authorities are also asking anyone with information about the skimmer placement to call the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 651-267-2624.
