Cause Determined of Fire that Destroyed Stewartville Home
Stewartville, MN (KROC-AM News)- Officials have released the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in Stewartville last week.
The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office says the fire was reported around 11:20 a.m. on February 24 in the 700 block of 23rd Street Northwest in the Southern Hills Mobile Home Park. The first deputy to arrive saw the home’s residents evacuating the burning structure.
Lt. Lee Rossman said Friday morning the fire has been deemed accidental. The Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office and a home insurance investigator determined the fire was caused by an exhaust fan failure.
The home is considered a total loss. The Red Cross responded to assist five adults, six children, and two dogs who were displaced by the fire. Rossman said five of the home’s residents were inside at the time of the fire.
The Stewartville Fire Department with the assistance of the Rochester Fire Department put out the flames. Stewartville First Responders and Mayo Clinic Ambulance also responded to the blaze. A monetary damage estimate of the fire is unknown.
