MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Prosecutors have charged a Minneapolis man who authorities say fatally struck a pregnant Arizona teenager as he was fleeing police.

The Hennepin County Attorney's office has charged 36-year-old Howard William Amos with robbery and fleeing police resulting in death.

According to the criminal complaint, police saw Amos' SUV speeding in north Minneapolis on the night of Sept. 2 and tried to pull him over. Instead, authorities say Amos fled and hit 16-year-old old Diana Garcia-Alvarado of Phoenix as she stood on the curb.

Garcia-Alvarado died at a hospital. Doctors reported she was about 12 weeks pregnant.

Authorities say Amos tried to carjack a family's vehicle before he was caught. Police found a handgun in his crashed car.

Prosecutors say more charges are possible.
