
Chatfield Woman Critically Hurt in Crash That Closed Highway 52
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Chatfield woman was severely injured in a crash that closed down a portion of Highway 52 near Rochester for approximately 2 hours today.
The State Patrol says the crash was reported just before 1 PM on northbound Highway 52 in the construction zone at the I-90 interchange just southeast of Rochester. It involved a small SUV and a semi-truck.
Truck Driver Attempting Turn
The preliminary crash report indicates 76-year-old Sandra Fenstermaker of Chatfield was driving north on Highway 52 in her vehicle collided with the southbound semi-truck as it was turning onto the eastbound I-90 entrance ramp.
Two Chatfield Women Transported to Hospital
Fenstermaker was transported to St. Marys Hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries while her passenger 72-year-old Mary Virnig of Chatfield was critically hurt. The State Patrol indicates she was brought to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
The Rochester man driving the truck was not injured. He was identified as 61-year-old Kenneth Langford.
Highway 52 Closed for Two Hours
The State patrol crash report indicates all 3 people involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not involved.
The crash prompted the closure of the northbound lanes of Highway 52 until around 3 PM.
