Child Dies After Being Struck by Metro Transit Bus in Twin Cities
Brooklyn Park, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities are investigating after a child was killed after being hit by a bus in the Twin Cities early Thursday morning.
The deadly incident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. Several law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.
A news release issued by the Metro Transit Police Department says the fatality occurred along County Rd. 81, south of 71st Ave. in Brooklyn Park. The driver of the Metro Transit bus reported striking a pedestrian.
Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the child was pronounced dead at 6:13 a.m. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office has been tasked with identifying the child and determining the victim’s official cause of death.
Officials say the driver will undergo drug and alcohol and be placed on administrative leave during the investigation per Metro Transit policy. No passengers were on the bus at the time of the deadly incident, the news release says.
The State Patrol responded to the scene to conduct an accident reconstruction.
