Child Porn Conviction Leads to Probation For Stewartville Man
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Stewartville man was sentenced today for child pornography-related convictions.
Court records indicate that 50-year-old Brett James Maronde was placed on probation for three years. He earlier entered guilty pleas to one count of possession of child pornography and a charge of possessing pornographic work. Under the terms of his plea agreement, another possession of child pornography charge was dismissed.
Maronde was charged last September following an investigation by the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office. The criminal complaint says investigators received a cyber tip concerning suspected child sexual abuse material that was being uploaded to a Microsoft Bing account linked to an IP address registered to a device in Stewartville.
The court document says a search warrant that was executed in July led to the discovery of about 250 images of suspected child abuse material on a laptop and an iPhone at Maronde's residence. The charges say the investigators also found links to an image-sharing cloud storage site based in Russia that is known for hosting child pornography. They also discovered images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children in the recycling bin of the laptop and determined those files had been accessed in March and July last year.
