than they were 24 hours earlier. Rochester’s unofficial low this morning was 15 below, compared to yesterday’s reading of 23 below, which was the coldest reading in 5 years. The high yesterday was 13 below. The National Weather Service says this was only the 30th time since record keeping began in 1895 that the maximum temperature was that cold or colder. The last such reading was February 1 - 3, 1996. The coldest windchill recorded at the airport yesterday was minus 53 degrees.

Winds diminished overnight, creating wind chill readings that were about 20 degrees lower than yesterday. It will remain very cold the next two nights but warmer weather is expected by the end of the week.
