Rochester,MN (KROC AM News ) -  The Rochester City Council is scheduled to deal with two items at its Monday night meeting that are connected to two proposed downtown projects.

One is a request to approve the preliminary plan for a large residential/commercial project on the south side of the downtown. The project calls for a five story building located along the south side of 5th Street SW and on the east side of 2nd Avenue SW. It would include 84 residential units. A motel had occupied that site for decades.

The developer hopes to win final approval in time for a May construction start.

The developer is also seeking $2.8 million in tax increment financing assistance.

The other item is a recommendation to award the architectural and engineering services contract for a new public parking ramp that will also service the proposed Broadway at Center project.

The recommendation asks the Council to award the contract to the Collaborative Design Group. The estimated fee is $560,000.The ramp project has an estimated cost of $10.6 million and will be coordinated with the construction of the Broadway at Center project.

The city will seek to have the ramp credited as part of the DMC initiative’s public requirement.
