What Minnesota's Crypto Kiosk Ban Means For Consumers

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A new state law that prohibits Cryptocurrency kiosks in Minnesota is now in effect.

The machines allowed users to instantaneously convert cash into digital currency.

The law requires the machines to go off line by August 1 and to be removed from stores by the end of the year.

Minnesota's New Law Banning Cryptocurrency Kiosks Takes Effect

A news release issued by the Rochester Police Department says it has investigated numerous reports of individuals being manipulated by scammers to deposit thousands of dollars in cash into the kiosks.

Once converted into crypto, the funds can be transferred to the scammer, which makes tracking down the victim’s money difficult for investigators, police say.

Rochester police began working with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office last year to push for stronger protections and to “address the harm associated with cryptocurrency kiosks,” the news release says.

Police are also reminding the public that scammers often impersonate law enforcement, financial institutions, utility providers and other trusted entities and create a sense of urgency.

“Legitimate organizations will not direct you to pay with cryptocurrency to resolve an emergency, pay a fine, protect your money or avoid arrest,” the news release says.

Items People Are Prohibited From Bringing Into The 2026 Minnesota State Fair

The 2026 Minnesota State Fair is nearly here, with the "Great Minnesota Get-Together" running Thursday, Aug. 27, through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7. If recent years are any indication, the fairgrounds are about to get very busy.

Last year's fair drew 1,940,869 people across its 12-day run — the fifth-highest attendance in the event's history — and it was once again voted the best state fair in America by USA Today readers.

Before you go, the list below is items that will not be allowed into any part of the fairgrounds, as well as additional items that, while they may be allowed into the fairgrounds, are forbidden in the Grandstand for the concerts and events.
