Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose said Monday afternoon that deputies responded to the report of a two-vehicle crash shortly after 8 a.m. Friday. The crash occurred at the intersection of 250th Ave and 720th Street, which is about six miles northeast of Hayfield.
Emergency responders found two sedans in a ditch near the intersection, one was described as resting on its top in standing water. Rose said the driver of the overturned vehicle, identified as 60-year-old Mark Moser of Hayfield, was able to escape his car while the other driver, 83-year-old Robert Faulhaber, had to be extricated from his vehicle.

Moser was coming from work and told investigators he wasn’t feeling well. He admitted to believing he had fallen asleep behind the wheel then woke up in his vehicle while it was upside down in the ditch. Faulhaber told deputies he was traveling north on 250th Ave. at about 50 mph when he saw the car driven by Moser enter his lane before he could get out of the way of the oncoming vehicle.
Rose said both men appeared to have suffered minor injuries and were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for further care. The medical examiner then informed investigators Friday afternoon that Faulhaber had died while receiving care at the hospital.
Rose said the findings from the crash have been forwarded to the Dodge County Attorney’s Office for review and a potential charging decision. The Hayfield Fire Department, Hayfield Ambulance, Dodge Center Ambulance, and Minnesota State Patrol assisted Dodge County deputies at the scene of the deadly crash.
