Teen, Rochester Man Injured in Crash at Hwy. 14/Hwy. 52 Interchange (Update)

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Two people were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital following a two-vehicle crash at a busy Rochester interchange Friday morning.

The State Patrol responded to the crash shortly before 7:30 a.m. It happened at the Hwy. 52 and Hwy. 14 West/Civic Center Dr. interchange. 

The state crash report indicates a westbound SUV was making a left turn onto the Hwy. 52 South entrance ramp when it was struck in the intersection by an eastbound Jeep. 

The Jeep driver has been identified as 49-year-old Abdirashid Sheikh Ibrahim of Rochester. Ibrahim and a 14-year-old boy riding with him in the vehicle were taken to the hospital with what are being described as non-life-threatening injuries. 

The SUV driver, identified as 32-year-old Anna Marjorie Mewhorter-Button of Rochester was not hurt. Alcohol was not involved in the crash and all three people were buckled up, according to the crash report. 

The crash backed up traffic at the busy interchange during the morning commute. Eastbound Hwy. 14 traffic was backed up as far as the West Circle Dr. interchange while crews were at the crash scene. 

Traffic has since returned to its regular flow. The Rochester Police Department, Rochester Fire Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance also responded to the two-vehicle crash..

MnDOT traffic cameras show several vehicles are either off the road or stopped on the shoulder.

The crash occurred at the interchange of Hwy. 52 and Hwy. 14 West/Civic Center Dr. The number of vehicles involved in the crash is unclear as of 7:45 a.m.

MnDOT traffic cameras show Hwy. 14 eastbound traffic backed up as far west as the West Circle Dr. interchange. Several State Patrol squad cars and a tow truck are at the scene.

Traffic cameras in the area do not show an ambulance at the scene. It's unknown if any injuries were reported in the crash.
