DMC Housing Project Wins State Clean Up Grant

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The City of Rochester is getting some help from the state to clean up contamination at the site of a planned apartment building in downtown Rochester.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development today announced the awarding of over $5.5 million in grants to investigate and cleanup 13 contaminated sites around the state. That includes over $939,000 to assist in the cleanup of petroleum and other pollutants on the 1.3-acre site near the downtown Rochester fire station selected for the Urban on First Project.

The developers of the $38 million project, Titan Development of Rochester and the Opus Group in Minneapolis, will match the state grant to clear away the vestiges of a variety of industrial and commercial businesses that once operated at that site, which included car dealerships and the massive Schuster Brewery.

The Urban on First project calls for a six-story building with 154 apartment units and 9000 square feet of retail space.
