Mankato, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities in southern Minnesota are searching for a person suspected of shooting and killing a dog.

Investigators have collected evidence tied to the shooting, including a threatening note sent to the slain dog’s owner warning them to stop their dog from barking. 

A second person in the same neighborhood also reported getting the same threatening note.

Those notes were sent two weeks before the apparent shooting, a news release says. Investigators have also obtained camera footage.

The news release issued, by the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office, says deputies responded to the report of a dog being shot and killed. The report came from a neighborhood in rural western Mankato on Saturday.

Upon arriving at the home deputies found a dead medium-sized and mixed-breed, female dog that had appeared to have been shot. The pet was found on the home's deck.

A neighbor told deputies they had been outside at the time of the apparent deadly shooting and reported hearing two apparent gunshots.

As of Thursday morning no arrests have been announced. Officials say the apparent deadly shooting is under investigation. 

Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward by calling the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office at (507) 304-4863 or report it anonymously through Crimestoppersmn.org.
