Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A significant construction project is scheduled to begin Wednesday in downtown Rochester.

The city will begin work on a sanitary and storm sewer project that will affect traffic and pedestrians in the public library area. The project is scheduled to run through July next year.

The first phase will involve 1st Avenue between 1st and 2nd streets.
Beginning Wednesday, that section of 1st Ave will be completely closed. Traffic on 2nd St between 1st and 3rd avenues will be restricted to one lane in each direction.

The city will also close the Civic Center parking ramp Wednesday and it’s not expected to re-open until June 1st. This will affect 642 parking spaces.

The Rochester Public Transit stop near Fontaine Towers will be closed during the project and riders will have to use the one on the 3rd Ave bridge. A temporary stop will also be set up at the civic center.
