Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - What started as a shoplifting incident at a Rochester convenience store early Tuesday ended with an assault of the manager and two arrests.

Police say the suspects apparently took some items from the Holiday store on 37th St NW and fled on foot with the manager in pursuit. The 23-year-old manager could not catch them and returned to the store.

A short while later, one of the suspected shoplifters came back to the store and tried to buy some cigarettes. The manager chased him to a nearby car and the suspects started driving off. That’s when the manager threw a crowbar at the car and broke one of the windows.

The manager spotted the car parked at the nearby Gage East apartment complex and confronted the suspects. One of them knocked the man to the ground and began kicking him in the head, nearly knocking him out. The manager was able to make his way back to the store and call 911.

Officers found the suspects still at the apartment building and took them into custody. They have been identified as 20-year-old Carlos Williams of Shakopee and 18-year-old Larry Mason of St Paul.
