Drunk Driving Crash Knocks Out Power in Rochester Neighborhood
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Rochester Police Department arrested the driver of a vehicle that crashed and knocked out power in a Rochester neighborhood over the weekend.
Police Captain Casey Moilanen said officers were called to a hit-and-run crash in the 900 block of Northern Valley Dr. Northeast shortly after 5:40 p.m. Saturday. A witness in the area reported hearing a loud boom then losing their power.
Witnesses told police a vehicle appeared to have run over an electrical box. Neighbors also reported hearing a woman yelling at a man about being too drunk and seeing a damaged vehicle parked in a nearby driveway.
Officers arrived at the scene and made contact with the driver of the damaged vehicle, identified as 27-year-old Forrest Skalicky of Rochester. Moilanen said Skalicky admitted to running over the electrical box and drinking before driving.
Officers conducted field sobriety tests then brought Skalicky to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center where his blood alcohol content was determined to be .22. Moilanen said Skalicky is being referred to the Olmsted County Attorney’s Office for 3rd-degree DWI.
Police do not have a damage estimate regarding the power box and vehicle and do not know how many customers were impacted by the power outage.
