MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A male nursing assistant at a Minneapolis nursing home has pleaded guilty to raping an 83-year-old woman suffering from severe dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Seventy-seven-year-old George Sumo Kpingbah of Brooklyn Center entered his plea Monday in Hennepin County court.

Kpingbah worked at Walker Methodist Health Center. According to a state investigative report, a nurse reported seeing Kpingbah near the elderly woman's bed on Dec. 18. Kpingbah was charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The Star Tribune reports that if he's convicted of rape again, Kpingbah could face millions of dollars in damages.

In a settlement to a lawsuit reached moments before he pleaded guilty, Kpingbah agreed to pay $15 million to the woman's estate if he is ever convicted again of criminal sexual conduct.
