Extreme Fire Risk For Much of Southern Minnesota
Minneapolis, MN (KROC--AM News) - It's expected to be fairly windy through much of the day, but the Rochester area is not included in a Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service today for extreme fire risk conditions.
The warning covers 41 counties in central and southern Minnesota, but excludes the far southeastern corner of the state. It does include Goodhue, Freeborn, Steele, and Dakota Counties and will remain in effect until 8 PM.

- Redwood
- Renville
- Rice
- Rock
- Scott
- Sibley
- Stearns
- Stevens
- Swift
- Traverse
- Waseca
- Watonwan
- Wright
- Yellow Medicine
“When fire risk is this high it’s important to be careful with anything that could spark a wildfire,” said Karen Harrison, DNR wildfire prevention specialist.
A Red Flag Warning is issued when dry conditions and strong winds combine to create an extreme risk of fast growing wildfires. No burning should take place in counties where a Red Flag Warning is in effect.
