NEW HOPE, Minn. (AP) — A family member identifies a man killed in a confrontation with police at a suburban Minneapolis city hall as 68-year-old Raymond Kmetz, and says he had a long history of friction with authorities.

Two officers were wounded in the gunfire, which happened shortly after the New Hope City Council swore in two new policemen Monday night.

The gunman's son, Nathan Kmetz, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that sheriff's officials told him around midnight that his father was dead.

Authorities have not released the gunman's name.

Records show Raymond Kmetz had a history of run-ins with city and county officials, including civil commitments for mental illness.

Authorities have not named the injured officers, but one of the newly sworn-in policemen, Joshua Eernisse, is hospitalized in fair condition.
